Amazon Unveils Alexa+: AI-Enhanced 'Explore' and 'Stories' for Kids

Amazon's newly unveiled AI-powered Alexa+ assistant is rolling out a couple of cool new features aimed at the younger crowd. Dubbed "Explore with Alexa" and "Stories with Alexa," these additions are set to jazz up the experience for Amazon Kids+ subscribers, making use of Alexa's snazzy new AI tricks.
During a splashy press event in New York, Amazon showcased these features, emphasizing their goal to spark curiosity and fuel kids' imaginations. With the Explore feature, kids can fire off questions like, "Can plants talk to each other?" and Alexa will chime in with, "Plants do communicate, but not by talking." Or they might quiz Alexa with something like, "A rose is red and grows in buds. True or false?"
Meanwhile, the Stories with Alexa feature lets kids get creative by prompting the voice assistant to whip up a story on the spot. Imagine asking Alexa+ to "create a story about a bearded dragon that plays a saxophone." Sounds wild, right?
"Alexa isn't just answering a question or telling a story, she's unlocking their imaginations," said Mara Segal, Amazon's director for Alexa, during the event. She added that Alexa engages with kids in fresh ways, using natural conversation and vivid visuals to keep them hooked.
For those interested, Amazon Kids+ is priced at $5.99 a month for Amazon Prime members and $7.99 a month for everyone else. The service hooks kids up with a whole bunch of books, videos, games, and apps, and it's tailored for kids aged 3 to 12.

Wow, Amazon is really pushing the AI assistant game to new heights! It's cool they're making Alexa more fun for kids, but I hope they have strong parental controls in place. My 8-year-old nephew would go nuts for this 😄
This Alexa+ for kids sounds super fun! My nephew would love the interactive stories. But is it just me, or does AI for kids feel a bit like giving them a robot babysitter? 😅
This is wild! Alexa+ making learning fun for kids with 'Explore' and 'Stories' sounds like a game-changer. My niece would love creating her own wacky tales. But, gotta say, I’m a bit curious how they’re keeping all that AI safe for the little ones. 🤔
