Amazon Now Offers Service to Purchase Products from Other Websites for You
Amazon is currently experimenting with a new "Buy for Me" feature on its mobile app, which allows users to buy products from other websites without ever leaving the Amazon platform. This innovative button leverages agentic AI, meaning Amazon can now shop on your behalf, simplifying the purchasing process.
Just last month, Amazon started directing customers to other brands’ websites for items not available on their platform. Now, with "Buy for Me," instead of manually entering your payment and shipping details on these external sites, the feature takes care of everything for you. This is made possible by Amazon's Nova AI system, enhanced with a new model that can navigate and act within your browser, in collaboration with Anthropic's Claude.

When you find a product that supports this feature, you'll see all the relevant details right within the Amazon app. A simple tap on the "Buy for Me" button will lead you to an Amazon checkout page, where you can double-check your payment info before proceeding.
Then, Amazon's AI steps in to securely pass along your encrypted personal and payment details to finalize the purchase on the third-party site. While Amazon ensures that it can't access any other orders you might have on these external sites, you can still track your "Buy for Me" orders through Amazon. For customer service or returns, however, you'll need to head back to the brand's website. Brands can choose to opt out of this program if they wish.
What's Next for "Buy for Me"?
According to Amazon spokesperson Lara Hendrickson, speaking to The Verge, Amazon isn't taking any commission from purchases made via the "Buy for Me" button. "Right now, this is an experiment, and we're trying to help customers find more products, and once they find the right product, we're trying to help them make more seamless purchases," Hendrickson explained.
Currently, "Buy for Me" is accessible to a select group of US users on both iOS and Android. Amazon is rolling this out with a limited set of brands and products, but they have plans to expand this feature in the future.
Update, April 4th: Added a statement from Amazon.

This 'Buy for Me' feature sounds like a game-changer! 😎 Amazon's AI shopping for me on other sites? That's next-level convenience. But I wonder, how do they ensure my data stays safe while zipping across the web? Still, pretty cool to stay in one app and get everything!
