Amazon Invests 10 Billion Euros in European Logistics, Unveiling AI Robot Proteus for Next Year Launch

On June 5, Amazon hosted its "Future of Delivery" event at the Dartford distribution center in Kent, UK, unveiling an AI-enhanced version of its Proteus warehouse robot. This advanced system, designed to understand and respond to voice commands, represents a cornerstone of Amazon’s €10 billion investment in upgrading its European logistics infrastructure.
Unlike the original Proteus robots currently deployed across 25 U.S. facilities, which are restricted to dock areas and tasked with moving carts weighing nearly 400 kilograms, the upgraded model operates freely throughout entire warehouses. The new iteration eliminates the need for complex programming; instead, staff can assign tasks using natural language, allowing the robot to autonomously plan routes and execute operations efficiently.
Amazon plans to roll out these highly autonomous Proteus robots across major European fulfillment centers in the first half of 2027, significantly accelerating the company’s logistics automation efforts on the continent.
