Amazon is introducing a redesigned user interface for its Fire TV streaming devices, aiming to prioritize content and simplify navigation. This update, initially available to Fire TV users in the U.S., marks the first significant overhaul of the platform in years.
The redesign comes as the proliferation of streaming services has made it harder to track available content across platforms. This shift requires devices like Fire TV to evolve from simple app launchers into comprehensive content discovery hubs.
The company first showcased the new interface at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, highlighting a cleaner, less cluttered layout. The updated design incorporates rounded corners, subtle gradients, consistent typography, and improved spacing. It also provides more room for pinned applications.

Previously, Fire TV users were limited to pinning six apps to the home screen. The new interface features smaller app icons, expanding this capacity to 20 slots. This accommodates popular services like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, Hulu, HBO Max, and others.
Additionally, the navigation bar at the top of the screen has been streamlined into clearly labeled categories such as Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News. The search function remains easily accessible to the left of the Home tab.

Within these tabs, Fire TV surfaces content you are currently watching and provides personalized suggestions from your subscribed services, organized in a "For You" row. The tabs also highlight free movies, top-rated shows and films, and other premium content you might enjoy.
The Live TV tab centralizes access to live programming available through your streaming subscriptions, as well as broadcast or cable TV if connected via an antenna or provider.

Less frequently used features are now housed under a three-line "hamburger" menu on the left side. This menu includes options for Games, Art & Photos, the Appstore, Music Video & Audio, a universal watchlist called "My Stuff," Settings, and other utilities.
Amazon's AI assistant, Alexa+, is deeply integrated into the new interface. It allows users to ask questions on a wide range of topics beyond just entertainment. Users can interact using natural language and engage in conversational follow-ups. The AI can also interact with on-screen content; for example, selecting a movie tile and asking, "Tell me more about that one," or requesting, "Find me more movies with a similar style."

Amazon recently announced that Alexa+ is included as a benefit for Prime subscribers. Non-Prime members can choose to purchase access separately.
The new user interface is launching first on the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the U.S. A broader rollout to more countries and devices is planned for this spring. This will include the latest generation of Fire TV 4K streaming players and TVs such as the Fire TV 2-Series, Fire TV 4-Series, and Fire TV Omni QLED Series, as well as televisions from partners like Hisense, Insignia, Panasonic, and TCL.
The update is also available on the new Amazon Ember Artline, a television series designed to display artwork on the screen when not in use, mimicking a framed picture.
