Amazon Alexa+: $19.99 or Free for Prime Members

Amazon's latest offering, Alexa+, is set to shake things up with a starting price of $19.99 a month. But hey, if you're an Amazon Prime subscriber, you're in luck—it's free for you! They're kicking things off with an early access phase next month in the U.S., and then they'll slowly roll it out to more folks in the coming months.
First up to get the Alexa+ treatment are the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 devices. It's still a bit of a mystery which other gadgets, like the Echo Dot and Echo Pop, will join the party. Amazon's keeping tight-lipped about that.
Alongside Alexa+, Amazon's launching Alexa.com, a new web platform tailored for those long, drawn-out tasks. They're also giving the Alexa mobile app a facelift with a fresh interface and some new tricks up its sleeve.
"We're not just tweaking chatbots here; we're stepping into a whole new world with generative AI and a totally revamped Alexa," said Panos Panay, Amazon's devices and services head, at a big event in NYC on Wednesday.
At $19.99, Alexa+ is right in the ballpark with other AI-powered chatbots like OpenAI's basic ChatGPT plan and Google's Gemini Advanced, both of which also go for $19.99.
Now, the price tag is a bit steeper than what folks were whispering about. Rumors had it pegged at somewhere between $5 to $10, maybe with a sweet free trial to kick things off. But hey, sometimes things don't go exactly as planned, right?

Alexa+ is cool and all, especially since it's free for Prime members, but $19.99 a month? That's a bit steep for what it offers. I'll stick to the free version, thanks. Maybe they'll add more features to justify the price later on.

Alexa+ is a game-changer for Prime members! Free access is a huge plus, but I wonder if the $19.99 price tag is worth it for non-Prime folks. The early access phase sounds exciting, can't wait to try it out! 🤩
