Alexa+ Introduces 'Adults Only' Mode with Mature Language, Excluding Explicit Content
Amazon's AI assistant, Alexa+, is introducing a new personality option. The company revealed on Thursday that it's expanding its range of personality styles with a "Sassy" mode, designed exclusively for adult users. Amazon notes that before selecting the Sassy personality, users must complete additional security verifications within the Alexa app.
This personality style will also be disabled when Amazon Kids is active, according to the company.
The new Sassy option joins other recently launched personalities, including Brief, Chill, and Sweet.

When enabling the Sassy option in the Alexa mobile app, users are notified that this style includes explicit language, which is why a security check is required. On iOS devices, this involves a Face ID scan.
The AI assistant describes its Sassy style as follows: "The Sassy style is built on one principle: help first, judge always. Each response comes wrapped in wit and a clever roast—it answers your question while making sure you feel something first. Anticipate reality checks delivered with charm, compliments that carry a slight sting, and unexpected warmth. It offers equal-opportunity irreverence with zero apologies. Honest, sharp, and humorous—somehow that makes it even more helpful than just being helpful."
Alexa’s app also cautioned that the style may include "mature subject matter."
However, further exploration confirms this isn't Amazon's equivalent of adult-focused AI companions like Grok. The assistant clarified that the Sassy option will not engage with explicit sexual content, hate speech, illegal activities, personal attacks, or any material that could cause harm.
This update represents Amazon's ongoing effort to make Alexa+ more customizable as it reimagines the assistant for the generative AI age. By offering diverse personalities—including one tailored for adults—Amazon is aligning with a wider trend in AI, where companies are experimenting with tone, style, and personas to create more engaging and personalized user experiences.
