You know, the UK's been at the forefront of computer science for over 70 years now. From those early days, British innovators have been pushing the boundaries of digital tech, and AI is no different. Thanks to the UK's top-notch academic and R&D scene, we've got world-class AI research institutes and cutting-edge companies like Google DeepMind setting up shop and flourishing right here.
We're at a pretty crucial point with AI, and it's time for some smart policy-making. AI could pump over £400 billion into the UK economy by 2030 and boost productivity across the board. Plus, it's got the potential to tackle some big societal challenges and push forward our understanding in the sciences.
Our paper dives into three big areas where we need to take action: beefing up AI infrastructure, coming up with a solid workforce strategy, and making sure everyone can get their hands on AI. We've got some game-changing recommendations in each area, like setting up a National Research Cloud and launching a National Skills Service.
