AI Coding Startup 8090 Labs Raises $135M Series A, Appoints Chamas as CEO

Chamath Palihapitiya, founder of Social Capital and former Facebook executive, announced Monday that his AI coding startup 8090Labs has closed a $135 million Series A round, with Palihapitiya stepping in as full-time CEO. Salesforce Ventures led the funding, joined by institutional investors and tech angel backers including WndrCo, Craft Ventures, Launch, Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora, and Quora CEO Adam D'Angelo.
Founded in January 2024, 8090Labs builds dedicated AI coding agents for enterprise development teams. Its flagship product, Software Factory, aims to shift the traditional code-assistance model by letting programmers create production-grade software directly through AI—not just code prototypes—while adding enterprise compliance controls like audit trails.
This round not only secures capital but also marks Palihapitiya's first full-time operational role since leaving Facebook. As generative AI moves deeper into enterprise production, 8090Labs' strategy reflects the broader evolution from AI-assisted generation to fully autonomous coding agents. With major capital and experienced operators backing it, practical deployment of production-grade AI coding for core business processes is set to accelerate.
