According to Sensor Tower's 2026 AI Status Report, ChatGPT's global market share fell below 50% for the first time to 46.4% by end of May, while Google Gemini rose to 27.7% and Claude to 10.3%. Total AI app downloads are expected to approach 2.3 billion in H1 2026, with user spending exceeding $4.2 billion and usage time doubling to 36 billion hours. ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude account for 89% of total AI assistant usage time. Competition is shifting from product capability to ecosystem and user retention.
