BMW and Alibaba Cloud unveiled three AI smart assistants for the Chinese market at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The assistants Driving Expert Travel Companion and Knowledge Master shift car voice systems from passive response to active decision-making. The new BMW iX3 long-wheelbase model is the first to feature them. Travel Companion uses Alibabas Qwen model and Amap to create complex travel plans while Driving Expert taps BMWs database for professional driving advice. This launch highlights BMWs push into intelligent vehicles in China.

Melbourne and UNSW researchers introduce VoxMem, a new benchmark exposing critical flaws in current voice AI memory evaluation. Unlike prior methods that ignore audio nuances, VoxMem isolates conversation length to test recall of speaker identity, tone, and background sounds across 34,743 audio instances.
