Google has unveiled significant upgrades to its Classroom platform, introducing free Gemini AI tools for educators and expanding access to NotebookLM for students under 18—marking the first availability of these tools for younger users.
Educators using Google Workspace will find a new Gemini tab within Classroom, providing AI-powered assistance for creating lesson plans, generating math problems, and composing professional communications. Education Plus subscribers gain additional benefits including Gemini-powered audio lessons. A new Analytics dashboard helps teachers monitor student progress, identifying both achievement milestones and areas needing intervention.

The upcoming expansion of NotebookLM will revolutionize student studying with AI-generated interactive guides and audio summaries based on instructor-provided materials. Educators can develop customized Gems—specialized AI assistants tailored to their curriculum—that students can engage with for personalized learning support. School administrators also benefit, as they can distribute these educational Gems across their district to maintain curricular consistency.
Additional enhancements include Google Vids for AI-assisted video production, AI-powered form creation support in Gemini, and the rollout of Class Tools. This newly implemented Class Tools feature allows instructors to manage Chromebook activity during lessons—distributing learning materials directly to student devices while minimizing digital distractions.
