The Australian Recording Industry Association has announced a new rule set to take effect next Monday, banning songs entirely generated by AI from its official charts. The decision was driven by a track using AI vocals and drum beats that replicated Madonna’s “Like a Prayer”, staying in the top 20 for 16 weeks and reaching number 2 on the singles chart. Under the new rules, songs must be created, sung, and performed mainly by humans to qualify for chart inclusion, with purely AI-generated works excluded from the ARIA Music Awards as well. Works using AI assistance are still eligible provided they rely on legitimate AI services, aligning with the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s “primarily created by humans” standard. A Sydney Conservatorium of Music lecturer praised the measure as a step to ensure human control over creative decisions amid widespread AI use in music production.

OpenAI has introduced a new optional security feature called Incident Mode for all logged-in users. When enabled, ChatGPT restricts real-time web browsing, deep research, and agent modes to reduce risks of prompt injection attacks and data leaks. Only cached web content is accessible, and file downloads or code-triggered internet access are blocked. OpenAI admits the mode cannot fully eliminate attacks, leaving the trade-off between functionality and security to users.
