Independent music publisher Round Hill Music has filed lawsuits against AI companies Anthropic and Suno in a California federal court, accusing them of using hundreds of copyrighted songs from its portfolio without permission to train their generation systems. The complaint states Anthropic used at least 500 lyrics from artists including James Brown and The Kinks in developing its Claude chatbot. Round Hill also claims Suno illegally utilized the same copyrighted music library for its AI music generation tool. The publisher says further investigation could reveal tens of thousands more infringed songs and is seeking nearly a billion dollars in compensation. Neither company has yet issued a public response to the lawsuits.
