OpenAI has added a new “Computer History” feature to the ChatGPT macOS desktop app. It records users’ computer activities in the form of a timeline that can be referenced by ChatGPT and Codex to understand work methods, offer automated suggestions, and assist with unfinished tasks. The feature operates on an opt-in basis, allowing users to exclude specific apps and sites from recording, delete existing entries, and have incognito browser content ignored. It does not capture images, videos, or audio but records user actions as events. This addition expands ChatGPT’s understanding of users’ work context, enabling it to provide proactive assistance rather than just responding to commands, while also strengthening privacy controls.
