OpenAI partnered with Broadcom to launch its first custom AI inference chip, Jalapeño, an ASIC for large language model tasks. Developed in nine months using OpenAI's own AI, it reduces reliance on single computing sources and cuts operational costs. Early tests show excellent performance per watt for GPT-5.3 and Codex.
